About me

Hi I am Umair Khalid, I graduated from San Jose State University with a bachelors in Computational Mathematics and I am currently working as a Software Engineer.

I am an avid book reader(especially fiction). I also like to learn new things, solve problems, develop apps, websites and games. I like to delve into anything that speaks "Creativity". From illustrations to game and web development to photo and video editing.

However, I don't stop there, for me to get really interested in something and to work on it passionately, It has to be challenging. Stuff that makes me think and learn is what I consider to be interesting. Here are some of my projects that I have done in the last few years:

BYE

Apps:

Falafel Corner App

Falafel Corner Falafel Corner Falafel Corner
I created this app for a local restaurant Visit Website. Following the pandemic as multiple bussiness started to face losses, I decided to help this local restaurant with their own IOS app. The app is currently being tested in a beta version and expected to be released later this year. The app was built complete with a backend portal for the restaurant to receive orders and take payments. (Note: More Menu items and Side Options will be updated by the restaurant)

WEBSITES:

Falafel Corner

I created this website for a local restaurant Falafel Corner . This helped the bussiness build an online presence and the customers are easily able to order from the restaurant's recommended service. (soon to be updated to take direct orders like the app)

Book Reads

Book Reads Book Reads
As I said before, I am an avid book reader and so I decided to build a book tracking website using React. Book Reads is project I am working on where the user is able to look up and discover new books as well add it to his or her list of books that they have read. Currently they can write a summary and rate the books according to their liking. I have big plans for this project as I intend to add user login support, multi page summary and quote saving option along with a user interaction where people can see what their friends have read and how they have rated them.

GAMES:

A Demon Game (VR in progress)

Demons.img Demons.img

This is a VR game that I am currently working on and plan to release it sometime soon. I want to optimize it a little better and add some more functionality. Having read a lot of fantasy books over the years, I always wanted to make something like this. A survival game where you are fending off demons as they approach you.

Catastrophe

Catastrophe.img Catastrophe.img

Catastrophe was made during a game jam hosted by a youtuber Ludwig, with the theme being his cat "Coots". After doing some research, me and my teammate came up with the idea of a survival game where the aim is destroy all the furniture items in the house, while avoiding getting caught by "Ludwig". I do feel like this game has a lot of potential to be a speed running game

Sweet Tooth

BossFight PezFight

An experiment gone wrong in a laboratory starts turning the world into candy. You as one of the remaining humans who is not fully turned into candy and still retain your conciousness should take it upon yourself as you try to turn the off the machine responsible for all of this. Use your own candied body to fend off and destroy enemies. A game made for IGN's Rogue Game Jam

The Assassin In White

Assassin Assassin Assassin

The Assassin In White is a game inspired by Brandon Sanderson's book series "The Stormlight Archives", in which we follow Szeth, the Assassin on his journey to kill a King. Use your lashing abilities to change the gravity of you and anything you touch in order to fight the guards and reach the king. I did lose a lot of progress by unity colab messing up. However, as I worked more on it, I realized that this would be a much more fitting game if I make it in Unreal Engine, so that is what I am working on at the moment.

Hexup

hexup.img hexup.img

I made Hexup in under 3 hrs as a challenge to myself where I had to think of a game and write it all within that time constraint. It's available to play online and overall idea is to score as many points as you can by letting the balls in through the correct side adn the difficulty will increase as the score increases. The game was made using Unity and C#. (There was a 3d version but the game got a bit too hard that way. I might link that version soon too i guess. Right now I am experimenting with adding ray tracing to the game just to see the effect tho I probably wont post it)

MonkiCapped

monkicapped.img monkicapped.img

I made MonkiCapped during a three day GMTK game jam along with a friend. The theme was: "Joined together", so we decided on a game with three monkeys, each handicapped in a different way. In order to survive, they have to work together and overcome each other's weakness and collect all the bananas. I should mention that this is a somewhat unfinshed game and leaves a lot to be desired.

Planes

planes.img planes.img
Planes is a small game that I built using Godot Engine and python, the art was made in Adobe Illustrator. It is a simple PvP game which requires two players to play this game at the same time. The objective is to destroy the other plane. A very simple and straight forward game that was built as an assigmnet for Game Dev class. It was interesting to finally use maths concepts such as trignometry in programming.

ART, MODELING AND ANIMATION:

Art and Modeling is a field that I have not delved too much in. I am at most a beginner in this field and I am slowly trying to better my skills. I have come to realise that sometimes, the only person available to you at that moment is yourself so better train yourself as best as you can before you need your own help.

An animation I made using lego for my Physics Animation class. I combined all the frames using Adobe After Effects and Premier.

Model Animation

I used maya to create each image frame by frame, then I converted them into 3D using Adobe Photoshop and then combined them using Adobe Premier. It was done as an assignment for Physics Animation class as well.

While working on a 3D game, I was unable to find an artist so I learned blender and used unity to build this model for testing my game which is still in progress.
