Hi I am Umair Khalid, I graduated from San Jose State University with a bachelors in Computational Mathematics and I am currently working as a Software Engineer.
I am an avid book reader(especially fiction). I also like to learn new things, solve problems, develop apps,
websites and games.
I like to delve into anything that speaks "Creativity". From illustrations to game and web development to photo
and video editing.
However, I don't stop there, for me to get really interested in something and to work on it passionately, It has
to be challenging. Stuff that
makes me think and learn is
what
I consider to be interesting.
Here are some of my projects that I have done in the last few years:
This is a VR game that I am currently working on and plan to release it sometime soon. I want to optimize it a little better and add some more functionality. Having read a lot of fantasy books over the years, I always wanted to make something like this. A survival game where you are fending off demons as they approach you.
Catastrophe was made during a game jam hosted by a youtuber Ludwig, with the theme being his cat "Coots". After doing some research, me and my teammate came up with the idea of a survival game where the aim is destroy all the furniture items in the house, while avoiding getting caught by "Ludwig". I do feel like this game has a lot of potential to be a speed running game
An experiment gone wrong in a laboratory starts turning the world into candy. You as one of the remaining humans who is not fully turned into candy and still retain your conciousness should take it upon yourself as you try to turn the off the machine responsible for all of this. Use your own candied body to fend off and destroy enemies. A game made for IGN's Rogue Game Jam
The Assassin In White is a game inspired by Brandon Sanderson's book series "The Stormlight Archives", in which we follow Szeth, the Assassin on his journey to kill a King. Use your lashing abilities to change the gravity of you and anything you touch in order to fight the guards and reach the king. I did lose a lot of progress by unity colab messing up. However, as I worked more on it, I realized that this would be a much more fitting game if I make it in Unreal Engine, so that is what I am working on at the moment.
I made Hexup in under 3 hrs as a challenge to myself where I had to think of a game and write it all within that time constraint. It's available to play online and overall idea is to score as many points as you can by letting the balls in through the correct side adn the difficulty will increase as the score increases. The game was made using Unity and C#. (There was a 3d version but the game got a bit too hard that way. I might link that version soon too i guess. Right now I am experimenting with adding ray tracing to the game just to see the effect tho I probably wont post it)
I made MonkiCapped during a three day GMTK game jam along with a friend. The theme was: "Joined together", so we decided on a game with three monkeys, each handicapped in a different way. In order to survive, they have to work together and overcome each other's weakness and collect all the bananas. I should mention that this is a somewhat unfinshed game and leaves a lot to be desired.
Art and Modeling is a field that I have not delved too much in. I am at most a beginner in this field and I am slowly trying to better my skills. I have come to realise that sometimes, the only person available to you at that moment is yourself so better train yourself as best as you can before you need your own help.
